Bom, a explicação é muito simples, a origem de caminhão vem do francês “Camion”. Mas chegando aqui no Brasil, a palavra ganhou a tradução “camião”, para facilitar a pronúncia.
Portanto, pensando logicamente, o motorista de camião é um camioneiro, certo? Certo.
Mas chegando aqui no País, a palavra também ganhou influências brasileiras, por exemplo, da palavra “caminho”. E a conclusão foi: já que os caminhoneiros vivem rodando por diferentes caminhos, por que não transformar “camião” em “caminhão”?
Foi aí que surgiu a forma usada da palavra até hoje.
